Christians often say that they are “saved”. But saved from what? Is salvation from “Hell” what Yeshua came to accomplish? Or is there a more immediate problem from which we need rescued? In this lesson we will take a fresh look at what the Scriptures have to say about this often misunderstood word – “salvation”.
“Salvation From What?”
Matthew 1:21 “She will bear a son, and you shall call His name Yeshua, for He will save His people from their sins.”
ישוע = “Yeshua” / יושיע (yoshia) = “save”
Salvation = Liberation from Bondage
Galatians 5:1 For freedom Messiah has set us free. Stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
Excerpts from Romans:
6:6 …knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, that our body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.
6:16 Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?
6:17 But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed.
6:18 … and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
6:20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.
Hebrews 2:14-15 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death He might destroy the one who has the might of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.
Redemption = The story of Ruth
Salvation = The story of Passover
Romans 8:20-21 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
