Is there such a thing as silent speech? This question is the foundation of this (what you might call) ‘mystical’ psalm. This psalm talks of speech, then says there is no speech. It talks of words, then says there are no words. What is going on here? Join the conversation about this amazing psalm. It has much to teach us about how we connect with God and about the essence of worship.
To the conductor. A Psalm of David.
1-2 The heavens declare the glory of God, and His handiwork is proclaimed by the firmament. 2 Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.
3-4a There is no speech, nor are there words, their voice is heard without it. 4 Throughout the earth goes forth their line, and to the end of the world their words.
4b-6 In their midst He has set up a tent for the sun, 5 which emerges like a bridegroom leaving his chuppah, and it rejoices like a powerful warrior to run its course. 6 The end of the heavens is its source, and its circuit is to the other end, and there is nothing hidden from its heat.
7-9
The Torah of Adonai is perfect, restoring the soul.
תורה (Torah)
The testimony of Adonai is sure, making wise the simple.
עדות (edut)
8 The precepts of Adonai are right, rejoicing the heart.
פקודי (pekudei)
The commandment of Adonai is pure, enlightening the eyes.
מצוה (mitzvah)
9 The fear of Adonai is pure, enduring forever.
יראת (yirat)
The judgments of Adonai are true, and altogether righteous.
משפטים (mishpatim)
10-11 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold, sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. 11Moreover, by them is Your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
12-13 Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden [faults]. 13 Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Adonai, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Matthew 6:19-23 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!”
