Parshah Beshalach is full of curiosities and unusual features both in the Hebrew and Torah scroll. In this episode, we consider the unusual word used to describe how Israel left Egypt “armed” with weapons. We will also glance at the “72 Names of God”. We will examine the bizarre way The Song of the Sea (Exodus 15) is written in the Torah scroll. There are other things, as well, that we will look into, but be sure to pay attention to what this portion teaches us about tests. They aren’t what you think they are!
Exodus 13:18 … The children of Israel went up armed from Egypt.

21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Adonai drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

QUOTES:
“The Torah was given solely to those who eat manna.” (R’ Jacob ben Asher, 1269-1343)
“A test is G-d’s way of saying: You’re ready for the next level”… “When you search for G-d and encounter an obstacle, do not try to avoid it or seek to go around (or even over) it, for G-d Himself is to be found within that very obstacle.” (Mendel Kalmenson, from People of the Word)
