Parshah Seasonings – BALAK (Numbers 22:2-25:9)

Numbers 22:22,32  But God’s anger was kindled because he went, and the angel of Adonai took his stand in the way as his adversary… And the angel of Adonai said to him, “Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out to oppose you because your way is perverse before me.”

שטן (satan) = “adversary / accuser” (n.) / “accuse / oppose / impede” (v.)

“Satan” = השטן (ha’satan)

 Genesis 26:21  Then they dug another well, and they quarreled over that also, so he called its name Sitnah.

 2 Samuel 24:1-3  Again the anger of Adonai was kindled against Israel, and He incited David against them, saying, “Go, number Israel and Judah.” So the king said to Joab, the commander of the army, who was with him, “Go through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, and number the people, that I may know the number of the people.” But Joab said to the king, “May Adonai your God add to the people a hundred times as many as they are, while the eyes of my lord the king still see it, but why does my lord the king delight in this thing?”

1 Chronicles 21:1-3  Then Satan stood against Israel and incited David to number Israel. So David said to Joab and the commanders of the army, “Go, number Israel, from Beersheba to Dan, and bring me a report, that I may know their number.” But Joab said, “May Adonai add to His people a hundred times as many as they are! Are they not, my lord the king, all of them my lord’s servants? Why then should my lord require this? Why should it be a cause of guilt for Israel?”

Isaiah 45:5-7  “I am Adonai, and there is no other, besides Me there is no God. I equip you, though you do not know Me, that men may know from the rising to the setting of the sun that there is no one besides Me. I am Adonai, and there is no other – the One forming light and creating darkness, causing well-being and creating calamity. I am Adonai who does all these.”
