The Table – שלחן
2 x 1.5 x 1.5
Exodus 25:23-25 “You shall make a table of acacia wood. Two cubits shall be its length, a cubit its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height. You shall overlay it with pure gold and make a rim of gold around it. And you shall make a border/frame around it a handbreadth wide, and a rim of gold around the molding.”
“rim” = זר (zeir) = “alien” / “outsider” (zar)
Exodus 29:33 “They shall eat those things with which atonement was made at their ordination and consecration, but an outsider (זר) shall not eat of them, because they are holy.”
Exodus 25:26-30 “And you shall make for it four rings of gold and fasten the rings to the four corners at its four legs. Close to the frame the rings shall lie, as holders for the poles to carry the table. You shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold, and the table shall be carried with these. And you shall make its plates and dishes for incense, and its flagons and bowls with which to pour drink offerings; you shall make them of pure gold. And you shall set the bread of faces on the table before Me regularly.”
Leviticus 24:5-9 “You shall take fine flour and bake twelve loaves from it; two tenths of an ephah shall be in each loaf. And you shall set them in two piles, six in a pile, on the table of pure gold before Adonai. And you shall put pure frankincense on each pile, that it may go with the bread as a memorial portion as a food offering to Adonai. Every Sabbath day Aaron shall arrange it before Adonai regularly. It is from the people of Israel as a covenant forever. And it shall be for Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a holy place, since it is for him a most holy portion out of Adonai’s food offerings, a perpetual due.”
b.Yoma 21a – A great miracle was performed with regard to the shewbread in the Temple, that the bread was as hot at its removal on Shabbat, after a week on the table, as it was at its arrangement…
The Menorah – מנורה
? x ?
Exodus 25:31-40 “You shall make a menorah of pure gold. The menorah shall be made of hammered work: its base, its stem, its cups, its calyxes, and its flowers shall be of one piece with it. And there shall be six branches going out of its sides, three branches of the menorah out of one side of it and three branches of the menorah out of the other side of it; three cups made like almond blossoms, each with calyx and flower, on one branch, and three cups made like almond blossoms, each with calyx and flower, on the other branch – so for the six branches going out of the menorah. And on the menorah itself there shall be four cups made like almond blossoms, with their calyxes and flowers, and a calyx of one piece with it under each pair of the six branches going out from the menorah. Their calyxes and their branches shall be of one piece with it, the whole of it a single piece of hammered work of pure gold. You shall make seven lamps for it. And the lamps shall be set up so as to give light toward its face. Its tongs and their trays shall be of pure gold. It shall be made, with all these utensils, out of a talent of pure gold. And see that you make them according to the pattern for them, which is being shown you on the mountain.”
33-34 – “almond” (3x) = שקד (shakeid) = “to watch”
Jeremiah 1:11-12 And the word of Adonai came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” And I said, “I see an almond branch.” Then Adonai said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over My word to perform it.”
37 – “toward its face” = פניה
38 – “tongs” = מלקחים (mel-kachaim)
Isaiah 6:6-7 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”
“pattern” (tav-nit) = תבנית
3x in description of the Tabernacle
Exodus 25:8-9 “And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst. Exactly as I show you concerning the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all its furniture, so you shall make it.”
Exodus 25:39-40 “[The menorah] shall be made, with all these utensils, out of a talent of pure gold. And see that you make them after the pattern for them, which is being shown you on the mountain.”
God’s Word: My FOOD
Deuteronomy 8:3 And He humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of Adonai.
God’s Word: My LIGHT
Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
