The Love of Torah vs. The Unrighteous Man

This brief psalm sets the tone and theme for the entire book of Psalms. It contrasts the righteous man who loves Torah versus the unrighteous man who loves doing things his own way. We will be introduced to several important Hebrew words:

אשרי (ashrei) = "contented"
חפץ (chophetz) = "delight/take pleasure in"
הגה (hagah) = "meditate"
צלח (tzalach) = "bring to a successful conclusion"
צדיק (tzadik) = "righteous person"
